About Dr. Perry

Education and Surgical Training

Educational background, residency training, and board certification are the first things to consider when choosing a plastic surgeon. Dr. Perry graduated from Rutgers College magna cum laude with high distinction in zoology.  In 1981, he received his MD degree with distinction in research from the Albany Medical College of Union University.

Surgical Training: He trained in general surgery at Harvard Medical School's Beth Israel Hospital and in burn surgery at the New York Presbyterian/Cornell Medical Center.  He then trained in plastic surgery with one of the all time greatest plastic surgeons, Thomas J. Krizek, MD, FACS at the University of Chicago where he was Chief Resident in 1987.  Afterwards he took extra training in a cosmetic surgery fellowship with the renowned plastic surgeons (and inventors of the chemical peel) Drs. Baker and Gordon in Miami.

Clinical Practice

Clinical Practice: Dr. Perry spends his days performing rhinoplasties, face and eyelid lifts, cosmetic breast surgery, liposuction and tummy tucks and injecting Botox and Restylane.  His nights are spent writing and designing skin care products.  He doesn't sleep.

Dr. Perry has been practicing in Central New Jersey for 35 years and in Manhattan, NY for 17 years. While seeing patients at 785 Park Avenue in Manhattan, Dr. Perry is happy to announce the opening of a full-service office at 1021 Park Avenue (corner of Park and 85th), where he will be performing minor surgery, and injecting, Botoxing, Lasering and otherwise pulverizing wrinkles. This office should open in mid-2023. In Manhattan, Dr. Perry operates at Lenox Hill and Manhattan Eye and Ear Hospitals, and will be opening the largest cosmetic surgery only surgicenter in the USA late spring 2023.  This facility, at 497 Greenwich Street in Tribeca, will be the most advanced facility of its type.

Teaching

Teaching:  After residency, Dr. Perry joined the full time faculty of Rutgers - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.  While now in private practice, he still has an active role in the teaching of medical students and residents.  He holds the positions of Adjunct Associate Professor of Surgery at Columbia University and Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at Rutgers.  For 14 years, he taught aesthetic plastic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where he held the faculty rank of Clinical Associate. 

Research

Research: Lifelong learning is important for all physicians and Dr. Perry contributes scientific papers to journals and chapters to medical textbooks to help educate other plastic surgeons. He presented original research on liposuction at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons meeting and published an important article in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery journal Dr. Perry wrote the neck liposuction chapter on the Internet plastic surgery book, emedicine. In 2013, Dr. Perry published a scientific paper about abdominoplasty in the prestigious Aesthetic Surgery Journal.  In 2014, he published a paper on ear reconstruction in Archives of Plastic Surgery and in 2015, he published a paper on unusual skin tumors in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.  His latest paper is an authoritative description of how he noninvasively performs facial rejuvenation.  Some of Dr. Perry's scientific studies can be viewed by clicking here.

Dr. Perry has been a reviewer for several prestigious publications including Practical Reviews in Plastic Surgery, and the Aesthetic Plastic Surgery journal.

Writing

Books: Dr. Perry's first book, was published in 1997. His "Straight Talk about Cosmetic Surgery" was published in 2007 by Yale University Press and was named the best health book (The "Gold Award") of 2007 in Foreword Magazine's annual competition. His next book, "You-Being Beautiful", co-written with Drs. Michael Roizen and Mehmet Oz, was a New York Times Bestseller for 10 weeks! In 2009, Dr. Perry's "Real Life of a Surgeonwas published by Kaplan Press/Simon and Schuster. He is perpetually 2 months away from completing his next book which focuses on women's beauty.

Government Regulator

Dr. Perry spent a decade as a government regulator, twice appointed by Governor Christine Whitman to the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners. This is an experience not too many physicians are privileged to have and it provided Dr. Perry with amazing perspective on patient safety. His first term began in 1995 and his tenure lasted over 10 years. He was the Treasurer and a member of the Executive Committee of the Board in 2002-3, was Chairman of the advertising and mesotherapy committees, was the special designee to the Department of Health for bioterrorism issues after 9/11, and was the representative to the Department of Health's Invasive Cosmetic Procedure Committee.  Dr. Perry has also been an advisor to Congressman Mike Ferguson.

Chief of Plastic Surgery

Dr. Perry was Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital - Somerset Campus from 2003 to 2005. In this capacity, he oversaw the division of plastic surgery. He has been selected to be an examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Awards

Dr. Perry was awarded fellowship in the American College of Surgeons (those are the "FACS" letters after his degree). 

He has been listed in the Top Doctors in the New York Area" book for 17 consecutive years including 2016 and was listed in the nation's top cosmetic doctors book in 2004 and 2005.

He was one of 4 plastic surgeons in the New Jersey Life magazine's Top New Jersey Doctors and one of 8 plastic surgeons in New Jersey Magazine's Top Doctors in 2005. He was again chosen for this honor in 2018.

In 2007 and 2008, Dr. Perry was named as one of New Jersey's top 8 plastic surgeons in New York Magazine.  

In 2006, Dr. Perry was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for Outstanding Contributions to Plastic Surgery and to the NJ State Board of Medical Examiners by the New Jersey Society of Plastic Surgeons.

In 2007, he was awarded the Gold Award by Foreword Magazine for writing the best health book of the year.

Radio & Television Appearances

28 years after broadcasting "Science Newsfront" on WRSU-FM at Rutgers, "Plastic Surgery in the Air" debuted on WOR radio in December 2005. In April 2007, Dr. Perry joined the world renowned physician and author, Dr. Michael Roizen, as cohost of "You the Owners Manual Radio Show", heard on 25 radio stations in the United States. In New York, listen to Dr. Perry's "What's Your Wrinkle" show, at 6 pm Saturdays on WOR710 on the AM dial.

In 2009, Dr. Perry began his nationally syndicated feature minutes ("Looking in the Mirror with Dr. Arthur Perry"), heard for years on the WOR and Armed Forces radio networks. 

Dr. Perry is the plastic surgery expert, blogging on the Dr. Oz television show website. He has been a guest on the show 11 times since the show began in 2009. He and Dr. Oz removed a mole from Jimmy Fallon's, live on the air!  On the same show, Dr. Perry lasered a red spot off of Dr. Oz' face. On a prior appearance, Dr. Perry performed a lower body lift on a woman who lost 178 pounds.  In another appearance, Dr. Perry advised the nation to use sunscreen that doesn't contain endocrine disruptors. In the fall of 2014, Dr. Perry was called upon by Dr. Oz to comment on the best skin care ingredients...  Not so coincidentally, Dr. Perry mentioned the very ingredients he chose for his NightThyme serum. On his last appearance on the Dr. Oz show, Dr. Perry discussed how the Brazilian Butt Lift is the most dangerous procedure in all of plastic surgery.

Dr. Perry is a frequent plastic surgery expert on television, with recent appearances on the Tamron Hall show, The Red Table Talk Show with Jada Smith, and others.

Skin Care Products

Dr. Perry created the very successful line of skin care products for the New Vitality Corporation, including NightSkin, DaySkin, Natural Block, and SoftSkin. He left New Vitality in April 2012 to start his own company.  His "Dr. Perry's(R)" line of products, featuring NightThyme, DayThyme, SoftThyme and CleanThyme is now available.  Dr. Perry's skin care line has been featured on the Home Shopping Network (HSN). His newest product, "Beauty in a Bottle" is the biggest skin care blockbuster of 2023 (or so he hopes...).
