Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Facial cosmetic surgery is a very broad topic.  Facial cosmetic surgery is divided into rejuvenative surgery and surgery to change your genetic destiny.  Rejuvenative procedures such as brow, eyelid, and facelift, as well as peeling procedures, help restore your former appearance.  Other procedures such as rhinoplasty (nasal reshaping), chin and cheek implants, as well as lip augmentation, give an appearance that you were not given through your genes.

Basset hounds such as Flopsy often require facial cosmetic surgery. Facelifts can help that tired appearance, eyelid lifts can remove extra skin and bags of fat around the eyes, browlifts can raise the brows and reduce wrinkles between the brows. The forehead can be contoured to reduce a male appearance. The shape of the eyelids can be changed with an operation called a canthopexy.  Flopsy needs all of these procedures. Fortunately, financing programs are available!

I’m a proponent of lesser procedures when appropriate.  For example, in a 45 year old person complaining of early jowls and excess skin and fat of the neck, it may be appropriate to perform liposuction of the neck and jowls, instead of a facelift.  If the bands of the neck are a problem, a procedure known as a platysmaplasty might be performed.  These procedures have a shorter recovery time than a facelift. They are also less expensive and have less risks.  For more information about this, see my chapter on the internet based plastic surgery book, emedicine.com. (This book is meant for plastic surgeons, but you plastic surgery junkies will also find it interesting...) Register for free and type in “liposuction of the neck and jowls”.

There's a new generation of less invasive procedures on the horizon.  I perform less invasive browlifts, called browpexies, through  upper eyelid incisions.  I’m a great proponent of filling wrinkles and folds, using your own fat or Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse, three new synthetic filling agents.  And I use lasers and peels to reduce fine wrinkles.   Botox, cosmetic surgery’s wonder drug, has become a staple in upper face wrinkle reduction.

The newest, coolest procedure is the Release Wire.  Without a visible incision, I can lift your nasolabial folds or marionette lines and inject fat or filler.  This revolutionary technique is performed in the office under local anesthesia!
